Peace Campaigns for Tibet

Posted on Apr 22, 2008

If only we learn from history, we will know that Indonesia and Tibet shared such a long and close historical relationship. Such was what Anand Krishna said in his article on ‘Indonesia, Tibet and the secret of ‘terima kasih’ in The Jakarta Post, 24 March 2008:

“For almost a millennium the Tibetans have preserved the missing pages of our history. They have preserved them with a sense of gratitude. What have we done for them? How do we return our gratitude to them?”

Thus, on Tuesday 22 April 2008, at the same time with the arrival of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch in Jakarta, the Anand Ashram Foundation and the Civil Society for Tibet’s Independence joined a peaceful rally to stop the violence, cultural genocide, and oppressions done by the Chinese Communist Party towards the Tibetan ethnics in their own country.

The Civil Solidarity for Tibet also consists of various non governmental organizations e.g. LBH (Legal Aid Institute) Jakarta, Kontras (Commission for Missing People and Victims of Violence), PHBI, Falun Dafa, City Poverty Network (Jaringan Miskin Kota), Yayasan Atap Dunia, Solidamor, Ghure, Hikmah Buddhi, students of the Theology School, Tibetan tantric believers from Bandung Bikkhu Tantrayana, etc.

The previous day on Thursday, 27 March 2008, the Anand Ashram Foundation also conducted two peace rallies in front of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. More than 50 friends of Anand Ashram joined the rally.
